We re talking about splatoon. Well due to is splatoon second chance in a way the original game saw like a total cult following pop up. But it was on the wii u. So yeah.
I guess enough said after that fizzle dose butoon gets a second chance here with its sequel on nintendo s switch. And i gotta say i m glad it did if you didn t actually know splatoon is a multiplayer focused third person shooter. The game design is all around your ink guns covering the world and all this colorful ink paint stuff allows you to quickly swap into an ink squid who can like glide around and jump around painted ground you can cover the environment and your opponent s different colored ink. But if you re in their territory covered in their ink.
You can t glide around unless. It s your own ink. So your mobility is really limited behind enemy lines the only way to even reload your ink guns is to glide through your own ink. It all really makes for encounters that feel like a brilliant and freakin chaotic game of like micro tug of wars and that works best in competitive modes multiplayer here is totally addictive the mode.
You re gonna be playing probably. Most of the time is turf war you have your ink guns and this is all about using them when a man starts you and your small team fan out across a map and work to drench some map in your colors over the enemies. You can shoot and kill opponents in this mode. Who respawn.
But that s not really quite the focus here. But if you do so their precious time spent respawn and gives you seconds to regain control over the color of sections of a map at the end of the round. Though the amount of coverage of each sides is tallied in this funny animation and the winning team with the higher amount of coverage is rewarded. But i will say though the playlists get nastier once you unlock the rank battles mode with stuff like tower control.
Splat zones..
Which is kind of like point capture and rainmaker. Which adds a special weapon. You need to cross the map. With and it gets weird all of this gets incredibly chaotic with different weapons.
Including the new dual pistols. As well as various crazy alt abilities that totally change the tide of a match quickly there s still some weird oversights here and there like not being able to change your weapons or gear in a lobby or mid match. Which i think would have been nice especially to like build a more nice balanced team. It s a simple thing.
Honestly. I think the game should have as well as just generally more matchmaking control. But it can be frustrating at time so i wanted to point it out. But spo2 is challenging as hell like i keep saying.
And it s really fun. And i do like about it is that it looks like a kids game. And it is easy to pick up. But it s difficult and nuanced enough that mastering it takes some time high level splatoon flight.
Feels almost entirely different and extremely intense for what many of you guys will probably call a baby game lots of hardcore players swear by motion controls even back from the wii u. Version. It s for more accuracy. And it makes it easier to fling paint around i do love playing that way.
But often this time. I had to turn it off because i get motion sick from it i ve never gotten that from a game. I play stuff all day every day because i do all that before you buy videos it really did surprise me. But it s not gonna happen to most folks honestly.
It s not that big of a deal but i just wanted to point it out because it kind of sucked a bit..
I can t play above ocean patrols anyway cuz. I wanted to and i didn t want to stop and then i did throw up but playing and doing well levels. Your character up and gives you access to new abilities weapons and gear that you can spend money you earn in game on the social hub has a handful of different shops that buy new stuff that is nicely rotated. What i do really enjoy you know i always talk about progression systems on here because it s my bread and butter.
But gear you unlock has slots with hidden abilities you have to level up that gear and unlock really the true potential of it it always kind of really giving you something to work towards and i m always a big fan of that what s you into like the original is really community focused so stuff. Like maps and modes are always rotating and the in world announcers. Inform you of changes to the game. If you happen to turn off your switch and come back a day or two later it does a good job of always making things feel kind of fresh splatoon s little social hub.
World also still acts a bit like a miiverse and it s really goddamn funny. And it s a shit show sometimes. But it all looks pretty great too colors are vibrant. The game runs sharp and smooth as it can on switches hardware limitations.
But so far for me. Matchmaking has been smooth and steady with minimal lag multiplayer play has held up fairly consistently. I know the eshop did take a shit briefly when the game launched. But everything is otherwise fine since for me like last time.
Though. There s also a decent single player mode here to keep you busy which seems to be like a thing. That s becoming rare with multiplayer games. But i m glad they have it the story takes place two years after the first game.
But with the big thing in the middle of the town or whatever going missing again it does feel like a retread. But whatever i mean gameplay wise. Single player gives you a shit ton of fun different scenarios. And some really good prospects.
Some little things in here that are really good don t really show up in multiplayer..
As much which i do think is a bummer. But single player mode is a good first thing to jump into even if for newbies the game. Doesn t really do a good job of showing you exactly where it is it does get you using all the weapons you may not usually try in a bunch and like a huge variety of different ways and scenarios. And it s just honestly good clean fun it s almost as addictive as multiplayer just nowhere near as competitive or challenging.
But speaking of challenging and competitive salmon run is this completely new mode with its own mini progression and that i absolutely love playing it s like a mix between a horde mode and a capture the flag with procedurally generated encounters and mini bosses in a level. Where you need to like score. These special eggs and run them back to your base to return them it makes for literal runs that are fast and crazy like you kill an enemy you snatch the egg. You run back and haul ass and do some jumps and then get back to your goal to drop the egg in it s incredibly satisfying.
And it s really great with friends and totally hard on higher level. Play thanks to enemies that are like constantly raining down their ink color really limiting your fast movement in places and causing you to really think on your toes. It s such a great give and take that i find myself going back to that mode whenever. It s possible now.
It s also worth mentioning of course. That shaft support kind of sucks. Hey. You ve probably heard about it.
But you have to use an app on your smartphone to access multiplayer chat features some people out there might find a use for it. But as it stands right now. I m not a fan just use discord or something i don t know maybe nintendo will learn i don t know what splatoon to is a good time and if you own a nintendo switch. And you really want to get angry at it and get fired up.
I think this ability to you in the best way is something you should check out it s good. It s fun. It s competitive even local play with friends is good. But if you re completely alone.
There s still plenty to do since it is community focus and often refreshed..
I could see myself hopping back into this and playing new challenges and just doing stuff. Very often and i m looking forward to that but this is a before you buy you know how it works i ll give you some pros some cons and some personal opinion.
